Mightiest of Guns are a dark country band from Melbourne, Australia. Their music explores the dreams and follies of the downtrodden. The Naarm/Melbourne sad bastards have released a couple of critically and popularly acclaimed genre twisting works which match equally their menacing onstage presence.

Dark, slacker country born from a dirty warehouse band room in Abottsford, sometime in 2011, Mightiest of Guns originally came together as a two-piece, toting sparse songs, of desperation, drunkenness and cruelty.

After running a 12 month gauntlet of playing in Milk Bars, house parties, warehouse gigs, front bars of pubs, small time student recordings, and a residency at a dive skater bar, Mightiest of Guns brought Blair Wittstadt into the fold on bass, and begun turning their songs towards of the bloodiness found in the myths of the Wild West and Australian Bush Rangers

Their debut EP Strange Birds (2013) offered a glimpse of their untamed sound, followed by debut album, Drink Over Your Grave, released in 2015 featuring dark ballads of bushrangers and cowboys. Long awaited second album released in September 2022, Cherax Destructor proving itself to be not only a departure from their debut record but an Absolute Monster of an opus exploring the dreams and follies of the downtrodden that cemented their reputation for raw, storytelling-driven music.

Touring the East Coast, regional Victoria, and South Australia, they became known for their sporadic performances. Resurfacing in 2022 with their second LP, Cherax Destructor, they evolved their signature sound while staying true to their rugged roots. Now, Mightiest of Guns only appear on the rare occasion, their elusive performances lingering in the memories of those lucky enough to catch them.

Mightiest of Guns are no-frills, brooding, sad-bastard rock ‘n roll who will no doubt make your Saturday Night Evening Session at Palling Bros feel that little bit more dangerous.
